Four people died and 15 others were injured after three separate shootings occurred in Dallas' Deep Ellum district over the course of one hour. Police confirmed the details in an update released Sunday morning.
The sequence of violence began at approximately 12:00 a.m. when five people were shot in the parking lot of a convenience store during an apparent argument. Minutes later, gunfire broke out along Commerce Street near South Crowdus Street, killing three victims. A third shooting took place on the 2600 block of Elm Street, where one person died.
Officers shut down the neighborhood around 1:00 a.m. to secure the area. They took one suspect into custody, though police did not immediately specify which incident that individual was connected to.
Dallas Police Chief Daniel Comeaux addressed the media later in the morning. He said responding units were stationed two blocks from the first scene and acted quickly. Comeaux stated that the department has witnesses and has made additional arrests beyond the initial suspect. His team is currently going door to door to collect surveillance footage from local businesses while searching for other individuals.
The violence marked a sharp increase in activity for the area, coming roughly six months after a previous series of incidents in the same neighborhood.
