The Arizona Humane Society now houses 29 dogs and cats displaced by flooding in eastern Arizona. These animals arrived at the Rob & Melani Walton Papago Park Campus in Phoenix on Wednesday.

The Humane Society of the White Mountains in Lakeside suffered major damage during last week's flood event. The facility is currently undergoing repairs and recovery work. To assist with the strain, the Arizona Humane Society dispatched a team of 10 workers to the affected site. The team transported the 29 animals from the Pinetop-Lakeside area to the Valley campus.

The Phoenix facility already holds more than 300 pets available for adoption. To create capacity for the new arrivals, the organization is reducing adoption fees by 50% for all adoptable animals. This discount applies to adoptions completed between Friday and Sunday.

Each of the 29 rescued pets features a distinct 'White Mountain Flood Rescue' logo on their profile photos. Prospective adopters can view these specific animals at azhumane.org/adopt.

Dr. Steven Hansen, President and CEO of the Arizona Humane Society, stated that the organization is committed to supporting communities during crises. He noted that welcoming these pets allows the White Mountains shelter to concentrate its resources on structural recovery. Hansen added that the move provides the animals a new chance to find permanent homes while asking the local community to participate in the rescue effort.
