The Miami Dolphins began their fourth annual Football UNITES Jason Jenkins Days of Service on Saturday, Oct. 1. The organization is dedicating the month of October to eight specific projects across the tri-county area. These efforts honor Jason Jenkins, who served as senior vice president of communications and community affairs before his death in August 2022.
The first event took place at Global Empowerment Mission in Doral. Dolphins staff and volunteers from CBS Miami assembled necessity kits for families affected by natural disasters. The organization will conclude the series on Oct. 30. That date coincides with what would have been Jenkins' 52nd birthday.
Jenkins joined the Dolphins in 2009 and worked there for 14 years. He created the Football UNITES program, which aims to unite people, grow the sport, and support economic and academic advancement in South Florida. He also led the Miami Dolphins Academy and the Dolphins Cancer Challenge. The NFL cited these programs as models for other teams.
Dolphins players, staff, and alumni will participate in the remaining seven events. They will be joined by executives from Hard Rock Stadium, the Miami Open, and the Formula 1 Hard Rock Miami Grand Prix. Community partners, elected officials, and corporate sponsors will also take part in the scheduled activities.
The calendar of service projects includes a food insecurity project sponsored by Kia at Feeding South Florida on Oct. 6. On Oct. 13, the Hollywood Police Athletic League will host a youth football combine. Northbridge University will sponsor another necessity kit assembly at Global Empowerment Mission on Oct. 14.
Amazon will sponsor a community gardens project at Rolling Oaks Park on Oct. 19. Gallagher will support a school beautification project at The Light Preparatory Academy on Oct. 28. The series ends on Oct. 30 at Hard Rock Stadium with a food distribution and book donation project sponsored by Eleven Sports Media.
The Dolphins invite the community to contribute time, skills, or resources during the month. Individuals can find details on how to participate at the organization's website, www.miamidolphins.com/remembering-jason-jenkins.
