Pop culture history and personal nostalgia defined the Halloween celebrations across Hollywood this weekend.

Stars shared their outfits on social media and during live television broadcasts. The selections ranged from recognizable movie characters to specific music video moments from the late 1990s and early 2000s. Paris Hilton debuted several looks during the holiday. One of her costumes recreated Britney Spears' performance of "I'm a Slave 4 U" at the 2001 MTV Video Music Awards. Hilton is known for rotating through multiple outfits over the course of the holiday.

Music tributes were a common theme. Keke Palmer and her three-year-old son recreated Janet Jackson's black-and-white 1995 music video for "Scream." The video featured Jackson performing alongside her brother, Michael Jackson. Brandy dressed as the Mattel toy Barbie. She wrote on Instagram that being the first Black woman to have a Barbie made in her likeness holds deep personal meaning for her. Janelle Monáe introduced a new character named Phish Boy. The look featured the impressive prosthetics that have become a signature element of her annual costumes.

Television crews turned to their own networks' archives for inspiration. The Today show marked NBC's 100th anniversary by dressing up as memorable programming from the past century. Savannah Guthrie led a tour of 30 Rockefeller Plaza dressed as an NBC page. The tour included Willie Geist as Johnny Carson's Carnac the Magnificent and Dylan Dreyer as Jeannie from I Dream of Jeannie. Al Roker dressed as Eddie Murphy's character Gumby from Saturday Night Live. The group also paid homage to Friends, with Guthrie as Rachel Green and Jenna Bush Hager as Phoebe Buffay. Carson Daly dressed as Ella Langley for his Today PopStart segment. Laura Jarrett appeared as Simone Biles, and Craig Melvin became Snoop Dogg to honor Olympic coverage. Sheinelle Jones joined the Radio City Rockettes for a dance routine celebrating the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade tradition.

Live! With Kelly and Mark brought back former co-host Ryan Seacrest for a special episode. The show featured more than 60 costumes. Mark Consuelos and Ripa dressed as Spider-Man and Yelena Belova from the 2026 film Spider-Man: Brand New Day. The pair then changed into Bad Bunny and Lady Gaga from the 2026 Super Bowl halftime show. Later, they appeared as Penelope and Odysseus from The Odyssey. The episode concluded with the team dressed as characters from Toy Story 5. Guest Lisa Rinna dressed as Kylie Jenner, while producer Michael Gelman wore a Timothée Chalamet look. Both outfits referenced the orange styles worn at the Los Angeles premiere of Marty Supreme last year.

Other celebrities focused on specific pop culture moments. Camila Mendes and Madelaine Petsch dressed as Betty and Wilma from The Flintstones. Kim Kardashian transformed into her daughter, North West. Usher and his family wore Toy Story characters. Elizabeth Gillies dressed as Luke from the 1998 Disney Channel movie Halloweentown. Tyga appeared as a Martian from Mars Attacks! and as Count Orlok from the 2024 film Nosferatu. Rickey Thompson recreated Zendaya's red carpet look from the 2011 premiere of Justin Bieber: Never Say Never.

The Hollywood Reporter is continuing to update its roundup of costumes throughout the weekend as more stars reveal their looks.

The event serves as an annual tradition where public figures showcase their creativity and engagement with entertainment history.
