BioSilk Treatment Drops to $17 as 20,000 Bottles Sell in a Month

A hair treatment that has sold steadily since the Reagan era is drawing heavy buying this month after a steep price cut on Amazon. BioSilk Silk Therapy Original, a leave-in formula launched in 1986, is listed at $17, down from $61, a 72% reduction.

The product contains silk proteins that the brand says fill gaps in the hair cuticle, cutting frizz and adding shine. It is marketed for use on fine, curly, textured and color-treated hair, and the formula carries no sulfates, parabes or animal testing. The brand states it also limits split ends and breakage.

Sales data cited in the listing shows roughly 20,000 bottles moved in the last month, and the page carries more than 23,000 five-star ratings. One shopper said a stylist used the treatment on a daughter's 4C curls, which had been damaged by high-heat tools, and that they "couldn't believe how healthy her hair was after one use." Another reviewer with thin, damaged hair wrote that the product gave their hair "some weight and [it] looked thicker, smoother, and shinier."

The discount sits alongside a run of fall sales events that commerce editors track closely, including Amazon Prime Day, Black Friday and Cyber Monday. Retailers have leaned on markdowns in personal care categories through the fourth quarter.

Amazon has not published an end date for the $17 price on the product page. The listing remains active as of Friday.
