One Nebraska broadcaster urges GOP voters to skip the ballot as a sign of tough love
Tom Becka tells moderate Republicans to withhold their votes in 2026 rather than support candidates he says have strayed from traditional party values.

Nebraska broadcaster Tom Becka is asking moderate Republicans to stay home on Election Day. He argues that abstaining from the vote will serve as a necessary wake-up call for the Republican Party. Becka describes this approach as a form of tough love meant to correct the party's current direction.
Becka identifies as a right-leaning moderate and registered independent. He said he will cast a straight anti-Republican ticket this cycle. He explained that this choice is not driven by an affinity for Democratic or third-party platforms. Instead, he framed his decision as a corrective measure for the Republican establishment.
The broadcaster cited specific policy and personnel issues as reasons for his stance. He pointed to the Vivek Ramaswamy advertisement that used a mother who chose her boyfriend over her son. He noted that the President and Vice President backed the ad after its release. He also questioned the party's silence regarding the Epstein Files and its support for tariffs, which he said contradict free trade principles.
Becka listed specific officials he believes moderate Republicans should reject. He named a governor who awarded a $2.5 million no-bid contract to a close friend. He also cited a Secretary of State who has not admitted Donald Trump lost the 2020 election. He included an Attorney General who seeks to overturn voter wills and a Senator who voted for unqualified cabinet members.
He named five candidates whom he said moderate Republicans should support instead. Those candidates are Lynne Walz, Sarah Slattery, Jocelyn Brasher, Dan Osborn, and Denise Powell. Becka said voting for these individuals allows Republicans to signal that they expect their party to align with family values and fiscal responsibility.
The columnist addressed voters who dislike the current party direction but refuse to vote for Democrats. He suggested that these voters should sit out the election entirely. He said staying home would demonstrate the cost of inaction to party leaders.
Becka has covered Omaha and Midwest issues for more than 30 years. He has been a guest on national cable and news shows and filled in for syndicated talk radio programs. Talkers Magazine has recognized him as a top talk show host ten times.
