Fort Lauderdale police are searching for the driver of a black car that struck and killed a woman on West Sunrise Boulevard on October 21.
The incident occurred just after 8 p.m. near a Popeyes restaurant. Witnesses reported that a vehicle hit Dominique Greene, a 35-year-old mother of two, and continued driving without stopping.
Greene had been visiting family in the area when the crash happened. Despite the impact, she was left in the street. Bystanders who heard the collision rushed to aid her, but she passed away at the scene.
Her father, Darell Gordon, expressed frustration over the driver's decision to leave. He noted that Greene was a frequent caller and described her as a caring daughter. Gordon questioned why the driver did not attempt to help or call emergency services after making contact.
According to a 911 recording from the scene, a caller described hearing a boom and screaming. The caller noted that people were gathered around the victim in the middle of the road and urged others to call the police.
Police are currently investigating the accident at the 1300 block of West Sunrise. They have identified the suspect vehicle as a black car. No arrest has been made as of the publication of this report.
This Friday, Greene's family plans to gather in Fort Lauderdale to distribute flyers. They have not yet received updates regarding the identity of the driver. Individuals with information can contact Broward County Crime Stoppers at 954-493-TIPS.
