President Donald Trump held a celebratory event at the White House complex on Wednesday, marking the placement of the final steel beam for the new ballroom. The gathering served as his first major public appearance following the Republican Party's losses in the recent midterm elections. The timing of the ceremony placed the administration's infrastructure priorities in direct contrast with the party's altered legislative standing.

The unfinished structure housed reporters, construction workers, and administration staffers. Inside the massive space, crews prepared to hoist the final structural element into the ceiling. Trump signed the beam before its installation, adding the word "Love!" above his name. The signature was framed by golden presidential seals, joining the marks of workers who had spent months constructing the facility.

The president described the project as a "special structure" and asserted that it would become the most beautiful ballroom in the world. He characterized the building as structurally the most powerful ever constructed, noting that previous presidents had sought a large event space for decades without success. Trump also praised a nearby helipad, declaring that his administration had "beautified" Washington, D.C.

Interior Secretary Doug Burgum attended the event and referred to the president as the "builder-in-chief." Burgum called the day one of celebration and gratitude. He described Trump as the greatest builder to hold the presidency.

Reporters questioned the president about his intense focus on capital projects, an issue that polling data suggests was not a top concern for voters. Trump acknowledged the scrutiny but stated that construction is "relaxing" because he loves the process. He explained that he renovated the White House because it is the ultimate symbol of America.

The president also addressed other political matters during the press interactions. He agreed that the Iran war was a major factor in the Republican midterm defeat, citing higher gas prices as a key driver. Trump said he expects to work with the new Democratic majorities in Congress, relying on his veto power if they are destructive. He dismissed questions about replacing Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, stating that the Pentagon chief has done a very good job, a denial that followed earlier reports of the president asking advisers about the position.

Crews lifted the large steel beam into place as the event concluded. Trump remained at the site for several minutes, shaking hands and signing memorabilia for the crowd gathered around the construction zone.
