Starting in early 2027, Channel 4's main broadcast channel and a catalogue of its on-demand content will appear directly within Disney+ for viewers in the U.K. and Ireland. The partnership, announced on Sunday, represents the most extensive agreement Disney+ has signed with a European public broadcaster to date.

Under the deal, Disney+ subscribers will access Channel 4's linear HD feed alongside hundreds of hours of scripted and unscripted shows. The integration includes a Channel 4-branded section that mirrors the navigation and user experience of the rest of the streaming platform. No additional fee will be charged to customers who already hold a Disney+ subscription.

The agreement ensures that several major Channel 4 productions will be available on Disney+ simultaneously with their initial broadcast. Titles included in the launch slate are the drama Maya, starring Bella Ramsey, the comedy Stepping Up, featuring Denise Welch, and the reality series Celebrity SAS: Who Dares Wins. Other shows mentioned for the on-demand library include Big Mood, Tip Toe, and 24 Hours in A&E.

Karl Holmes, general manager for Disney+ in Europe, the Middle East, and Africa, stated that the move is designed to capture local audiences who may not currently stream through the service. Holmes noted that Disney+ subscriber numbers in the region have grown by 30 percent over the last 18 months. He attributed much of this growth to the inclusion of local originals and content from free-to-air partners.

Channel 4 CEO Priya Dogra described the partnership as a response to shifting viewing habits. She explained that audiences increasingly consume content across multiple platforms. By embedding its programming within Disney+, Channel 4 aims to reach viewers who do not traditionally watch its linear broadcast. Dogra emphasized that the broadcaster's own owned and operated services will remain the primary home for the vast majority of its output.

The financial terms of the contract were not disclosed. However, Channel 4 stated that the deal aligns with its digital-first strategy, which seeks to channel more revenue toward distinctive British content. The broadcaster will retain full control over its commissioning decisions, while Disney+ handles distribution within its ecosystem.

Data from U.K. measurement firm BARB indicates a stark demographic difference between the two platforms. While 63 percent of Channel 4 viewership hours come from people aged 55 and older, only 11 percent of Disney+ viewing hours come from that age group. Conversely, 17 percent of Disney+ hours are watched by children aged 4 to 15, compared to just 3 percent on Channel 4.

Both executives indicated that the partnership may expand in the future. Dogra noted that Channel 4 already licenses Disney programming, including The Simpsons and The Avengers. Holmes said the two parties plan to continue discussing how to broaden the scope of their collaboration as they gather more data on audience engagement.
